As the spring practices for Iowa wrap up, the Hawkeyes find themselves with two players who are not on the roster from last season, and it’s not due to graduation or injury.

Running back Adam Robinson and defensive back Willie Lowe are currently not on the team for two completely different reasons. Robinson was suspended for violating team rules before the Insight bowl and they found himself behind bars for possession of marijuana the night before the game. Robinson is still taking classes at the University of Iowa and has said he wants a second chance to return to the Hawkeye football program. Robinson had problems with concussions during his sophomore season as a Hawkeye and told reporters that the concussions he had could be to blame for his grades slipping and his marijuana charge.

“When I was going through all the concussion-ary symptoms, I wasn’t necessarily able to get all of my study hours at the learning center,” Robinson said. “I felt they should’ve backed off on my hours, especially when I was at the peak of having concussion-ary symptoms — headaches, things like that. That didn’t happen.” “I hope my actions this semester will show I’ve changed, and I’m changing,” Robinson said. “I realize I’ve made some bad choices. Hopefully, with the progress I’m planning to make, it will re-open the door.”

It makes sense that they would have most of the older players in the starting lineup right now rather than simply giving it to the younger kids.

Big Ten Nation takes a look at the Iowa two-deep, and offers up some analysis about Iowa’s bounty of new starting players.
